## The Big Idea

Rookie Roger McQueen scored his first NHL goal Thursday at Honda Center, but the Ducks lost a 13-goal shootout to the Buffalo Sabres, 7-6\. The team called it simply: "The comeback comes up short."

## Key Points

- **Confirmed:** Sabres 7, Ducks 6\. McQueen's first NHL goal, per the team.
- Anaheim led 2-0 on two power-play goals, including one from Cutter Gauthier, who scored twice, both on the power play per the [box score](https://insidetherink.com/stats/nhl/games/2026-10-29-sabres-at-ducks-2026020211/?ref=sovereigntyledger.com) (Anaheim went 3 for 4 on the power play).
- Buffalo's Tage Thompson had a natural hat trick and two assists, per multiple Sabres beat reports.
- Late goals from Luneau and Sennecke made it a one-goal game, but Anaheim couldn't find the tying goal.

## Quick Context

- McQueen is one of the Ducks' top prospects; a first NHL goal is a milestone for a young core in its rebuild.
- Daily Faceoff framed the night as the Ducks "slipping," so the next few games matter.
